We made it to the gate and the boys found some chairs to relax in and have a little snack.
We had a decent amount of time for a layover in Dallas. So, we got the boys some dinner and let them play a little bit.
Our gate ended up being very close to the indoor kids play area. So, we didn't have to let the boys just play with the glass walls.
As it turned out, we didn't find out until after our boarding time that our plane wasn't ready. It was going to be delayed at least until 8pm but probably later. Actually, they said at 8pm they would decide if our flight was leaving Dallas at all for the night. Super.
So, the play area became our best friend over the next few hours. Even then we had to use the Ipad as backup entertainment a few times.
At 8pm we check the status of our flight and no one knew anything. So, we continued to wait. The flight boards all said 9:30pm still. I kept getting up to check it and then all of a sudden it changed to 9pm. So, we quickly gathered the boys and headed to the gate just in time to walk right on the flight. I couldn't believe they didn't even make an overhead announcement. We were all thrilled to be on the plane heading to Columbia after such a long evening.
The boys were troopers considering the time we had to spend in the aiport! We had a few meltdowns because they were getting really tired but who could really blame them...it was an hour past their bedtime by the time we got on the plane. I have to say that despite being frustrated with the lack of knowledge the gate attendants have and just the frustration of being delayed so long, we were so blessed to have a play area so close by! We had a great trip but we were also happy to be home, even if it was nearly 4 hours late.
