"Listen Mister, I'm Trying to Save My Baby"

On March 10th, we attended an Infant CPR class with Jennifer's parents. We learned a lot despite a few distractions from the class clowns. Watch the video (best with sound).

Showered with Gifts

On Saturday, March 6th, Great Aunt Betty threw a lovely baby shower for Jennifer. She stayed true to the Noah's Ark theme, which is also the theme of Baby Brown's nursery. We had a great time playing games and Betty had huge sugar cookies made in the shape of lots of animals. It was adorable! There was also a darling Noah's Ark cake, which was delicious. Most of all it was a great time to see family and hang out. I felt so blessed by everyone's attendance and generosity. Some of Justin's family was even able to make the long trip up from Texas to join in the festivities.

ShowerCake

As you can see, the cookies were so adorable. We only had a chance to take a picture of a few of them, but you can imagine. Lions and Tigers and Bears, oh my! And, they tasted great!

ShowerCookies

You can see how generous everyone was...we could barely fit it all in the nursery! It's all beginning to come together now, getting everything unpacked and such. We are so blessed to have such great family and friends! And there's even another shower planned!

Ultrasound - November 2009

Here's our ultrasound at about 18 weeks, just before Thanksgiving when we found out we were having a boy. I tried to get Jennifer to hold out until Christmas, but she just had to know right away. The timing, though, did allow us to share the news with both sides of the family in person since we traveled to Texas for the Thanksgiving holidays. You'll notice that our little baby boy is proud! The ultrasound technician did not have a hard time at all giving us the news!

The Naming Game

So, my coworkers seemed to have a little too much fun on Friday. Apparently, they thought Jennifer and I needed help choosing a name for the baby. You can see what they came up with below. I guess they know my love for food, all things country, the State of Texas, and Texas A&M University. Although I appreciate the help, I will remind you all that we actually have a name for the baby, it's just a secret. And, let me also take this moment to let you know we did NOT choose any of the names on this list!
  • Porkchop
  • T-bone

  • Rib eye

  • Grits (you can tell they started this at lunch)

  • Amarillo

  • Austin

  • Dallas

  • Laredo

  • Navasota

  • Tahoka

  • Houston (I guess they had their Texas maps out for a while)

  • Tatanka (“buffalo” from Dancing with Wolves)

  • Bubba

  • Angus

  • Brahma (perhaps influenced by the fact that PBR is in Kansas City this weekend)

  • Opie

  • Chevy (Ford? Ram Charger?)

  • Tank

  • Sue (undoubtedly from a Johnny Cash fan)
  • Tex

  • Hank

  • Aggie

  • Longhorn (definitely not happening)

  • Billy Bob

  • Joe Bob (any kind of name ending in Bob?)

  • Cowboy

  • And finally…..BEVO (again, not happening!)

"Curtains Up"

The Nursery project is moving along. We now have the curtain up! Plenty of animals to go around to fit in the Noah's Ark theme.

Assembling the Crib

Start Time: 7:43pm, End Time: 8:14pm

Assembling the crib did not take as long as we expected. Maybe that's because it's simply made of solid wood and metal. No particle board and plastic for this baby! And as you can see, if you click one of the photos and check out the gallery, Jennifer, as always, is responsible for reading the instructions...and Justin is the manual labor.

Another project checked off our to-do list!

Painting the Nursery

Lots of bright colors in here. Lots more to come, though!

Lesson learned: a 6-inch stripe around an 11x11 room does not require a gallon of paint! What else shall we paint bright green?

Finishing the Basement, Part Two

The basement is coming along. Here are some pictures of the family room. Now, we can begin to focus on the nursery, which is what everyone really wants to see, huh?

Since the nursery is coming in (don't worry, there will be pictures), we are moving the guest bedroom downstairs. The projects are moving along. There's not much time left before Baby Brown arrives!
