Garytt's First Dental Appointment

Apparently we are a little behind on scheduling Garytt's first dental appointment. This is mostly due to a misunderstanding between us and our family dentist. At our last dental appointment, both Justin and I asked when we should bring him in for his first check-up. The response was that they don't usually see kids until about 3 years old. So, we didn't think much more about it. However, I was reading some articles this week and discovered that we should have taken him to a pediatric dentist 6 months after his first tooth errupted or by his first birthday. Oops!

Seeing how Garytt is already 17 months old, I called to schedule an appointment with a pediatric dentist right away. I actually assumed that we would have to wait until after our upcoming trip to get him in but they had an opening yesterday afternoon. Yay!

We did have to wait in the waiting room a little while. But Garytt didn't seem to mind because they had some fun activities to keep him busy.

Busy coloring...and looking at a magazine about blood...he was quite fascinated with that...maybe he'll be a scientist like his mom!

Playing with the wheel on the wall...that only entertained him for a few minutes.

Picking books out...but not to read...he just wanted to hand them all to me...silly boy.

Finally, it was time to go back to see the dentist. I really wasn't sure how this part would go, but he did a super job! I have some pictures of him sitting in the chair. Then I had to help hold him during the exam, so there are no pictures of the actual exam, which mainly consisted of counting his teeth.

Sitting in the dentist chair for the first time! Big boy!

He was very interested in the mouse.

When the exam was over, he received a report card with a smiley face on it. So, I guess that really means that Mom and Dad are doing an ok job of brushing his teeth. I did get a few pointers to make it easier, so we'll have to try those out and see if it helps. He also received an Elmo sticker, a new toothbrush, and a bag to carry his toothbrush in. He was pretty excited about his "goodies."

I really couldn't have asked for a smoother first trip to the dentist. There was no crying (well except on the way out when we had to pass by the waiting room and he really wanted to go play some more) and his check-up went well. We will go back in 6 months and hope for a very similar experience!

Big Brother

The big news in the Brown household this summer is that Garytt is going to be a big brother!

We had our first ultrasound in mid-July but I wanted to be in my second trimester before announcing it everyone. I am 15 weeks along and we are due February 8, 2012. And here is the new baby's first picture!

We have another ultrasound scheduled for late September. We are just praying for a smooth pregnancy and a healthy baby...and maybe not to go into labor during a huge Wisconsin snow storm.

A Trip to Green Bay

On the last day that W.D. and Shira were here, we decided to make a trip up to Green Bay for the day. We first went to a winery just outside Green Bay called Parallel 44. We had a little picnic lunch overlooking the vineyards, which was quite beautiful. We also took a tour of their vineyards and wine making facility. Then everyone went in the shop to taste the wine. Garytt was getting a bit bored with the whole thing, so I stayed outside and played with him in their courtyard.

After that, we headed back in to the town of Green Bay to take a tour of the Packers stadium. They recently remodeled and the atrium area really is quite beautiful. And of course, we had to take picutres down by the field.

Ready to go on the tour...yay!

After the tour, we took a moment to look around the gift shop.

Not sure what we are doing here. :)

Rather than buy a cheesehead, we decided a picture was enough...haha.

After the brief stop in the gift shop, we decided to take a few pictures in front of the Vince Lombardi statue.

By that time, it was time to head back to Oshkosh. We hope that W.D. and Shira enjoyed their trip. We certainly enjoyed having them visit!

EAA Fly-In Part 3

John and Trish left the morning of the last day of the Fly-In. I think they had fun but were totally worn out from all the walking. So, they headed back to Kansas. It was great to see them and hang out while they were here!

The rest of us went out to EAA around 9 am that morning. I really wanted to go see the EAA Museum since that entrance fee was included in the ticket prices for that week. Shira and W.D. had already seen the museum, so they went on out to the air field.

I was very excited to see the museum until we realized that, yet again, we forgot our camera...I need to start bringing the small camera with me at all times, just in case. We did take a few pictures on my cell phone, but they are cell phone quality...bummer.

Garytt loved playing with all the controls in the cockpit!

There was a little discovery section in the museum for kids. A lot of the stations didn't seem to be working at the time...probably over use during that week. But Garytt really loved playing with his shadow at this station...I'm not actually sure what it was supposed to represent, but he liked it.

Just behind the EAA museum, was the KidsVenture area of the event. So, we thought we would go check that out. Unfortunatley, Garytt really needed to be a bit older. They had activities like coloring a T-shirt, riding the pedal cars that were airplanes, and for the older kids they had flight simulators and instructors to quiz the kids on what they learned. It was actually a really neat area, and we will have to go back when he is a little older.

Right outside the KidsVenture area, there was an old cargo plane they had open. So, Justin took Garytt inside to check it out. Again, he loved the buttons in the cockpit but I didn't get a picture of that part.

After that, we decided to go home and get a bite to eat and let Garytt take a little nap before the afternoon airshow. It was a nice little break.

On our way back into the airshow for the last time

We met up with W.D. and Shira. Almost all the homemade planes were gone and the field next to the runway was nearly empty. So, there wasn't a lot of shade around anymore. But we found a spot under a tree and waited for the show to start. Garytt is really not so much about waiting. So, Shira and I took turns walking him around the field...ok, so I'm a totally overprotective mother and I insisted on someone holding his hand the entire time.

Other than that, we gave him a snack and let him play with sticks while we waited. For the most part that entertained him.

I don't know if it was because we had been out there several times that week and Garytt was finally understood that he is supposed to watch the planes or if the noise that these planes made just caught his attention more, but he actually really enjoyed most of this airshow and paid attention.

Yikes!

Ok, so I said he liked MOST of this airshow...that was until they brought in a military plane that is apparently not designed to be able to hover but that it exactly what they were going to do. The first attempt failed because the pilot indicated something was wrong. So, they tried again later in the show and it worked. Ok, so it was cool but it lasted WAY too long for poor Garytt. It was so loud that we had to cover his ears and between being held in place and the noise, he was not happy! It took both of us to contain him, so we didn't get a picture of the breakdown. But here is the culprit.

After that incident, we tried to take pictures of the family but Garytt wasn't too interested in looking at the camera.

Four generations of Browns

The EAA Fly-In was fun. They say that during the week of the Fly-In, the EAA runway in Oshkosh is the busiest runway in the world.

Now, prior to going to this event, I thought that there was no way that was a true statement. Well, I believe it after seeing that pretty much all week long it is just one plane after another taking off from this runway. It is really amazing.

So, if anyone is interested in staying at the Brown B&B for next year's EAA Fly-In, let us know! :)
