2017 Pacific NW Trip - Day 3 - Plover Ferry and Peace Arch Park

We made it over to the Plover Ferry just in time.


The Plover Ferry is a historical foot ferry that takes passengers between the main land over to a small island and back. It's not a long ride but very beautiful. We had ended up being the only passengers on the way there and the boys were allowed to "drive" the boat. They loved it!


We took some pictures while we were docked at the island briefly.


On our way back, we saw an eagle flying and a bunch off sea lions hanging out on a rock wall.


Good-bye to the Plover...it was a fun ride.


Just across the street from the Plover dock, there was a little park with whale statues. The boys wanted to check it out. If you look in the background on some of the pictures, you can see the Peace Arch.


We headed over to Peace Arch Park to take pictures along the border between the U.S. and Canada since the previous day we were crossing the border too early or too late to stop and enjoy the area.


As we walked around the park, we found some markers along the way. The boys are half in U.S. and half in Canada.


We also noticed some pretty serious walls to help with border control.


We headed back to the United States and called it a day.

2017 Pacific NW Trip - Day 3 - A Day Exploring the Bay

After such a late night the day before, we took it easy on June 10. We told the boys we wanted them to journal their experiences on this trip so they could remember more details. So, while we got breakfast ready, they started working on their journals. They used brochures and maps that we picked up along the way in addition to drawings and writing sentences about their day.


Once they finished writing in their journals for the morning and we finished up breakfast, Justin took the boys to the pool again for a brief swim. Then we had plans to go to the state park just down the road to join a free educational exploration of the bay. The guide was very enthusiastic about the nature of the bay. He showed us how this part of the bay was particularly rocky and great for clamming.


After the guide was done, we went to check out some of the other booths at the gathering.

They were also hosting a free will donation lunch at the pavilion.


There was a band at the pavilion. After the boys ate, they wanted to dance in the field.


Then we noticed a little trail right behind the pavilion. So, we went exploring.

 
After exploring, we headed back to the condo but we stopped at the local sweet shop and let the boys pick a treat.


After a quick break in the condo, we decided we should go out to our side of the bay again and play in the sand before the high tide came in.


Turns out that the tide comes in pretty quickly. And it fills in the low spots first, obviously, so the boys are standing on a high spot surrounded by water.


They thought that was so fun. Of course they had to walk back through the water.


There was a little bit of sand left to play with before the tide was fully in.


We finally had to head back. The boys loved the shoe sprayer at the condo.


After a quick shower, we decided to rent a bike at the shop below the condo.


It was a fun little ride along the bay. But we had to hurry up to get to our next adventure...we were heading to ride the historic Plover Ferry.
