MIZ-ZOU Volleyball

Justin received some free tickets to a Mizzou volleyball game in September. Then, he was told about this tailgate prior to the game that would have fun things for the kids to do. There was a bounce house, face painting, and more. Garytt got his face painted like a tiger and Westyn got a temporary tattoo.


Soon it was time for pizza and ice cream. The boys enjoyed their dinner but Garytt was really intense about his tiger growl! (It was also about this time that we discovered that the tailgate was actually for transfer students and their families...oops...we totally crashed the party.)


Anyhow, we headed in to find some seats for the game. But we saw Truman, so the boys went to say "Hi" first.


Then all the kids were allowed to line up around the edge of the court and the volleyball players would give high fives as they were announced. The boys did a great job standing there but as it got closer to the start, they kind of got boxed out by the bigger kids. I'm not sure if they got any high fives or not.

The boys were pretty entertained for the first two games but eventually got too antsy. So, we bribed them through the end of the match with popcorn...haha. We had a great time watching the Mizzou Tigers win! The next volleyball match we go to is going to be Mizzou vs. A&M...I'll be wearing maroon, Justin has to wear black and gold...I wonder what the boys will choose...

Apple Picking

We decided to go apple picking in mid-September after I heard about this apple orchard not too far from us called Apples and Alpacas. They have short apple trees that are perfect for little ones to help do the picking and it was only 90 cents a pound. The boys were pretty excited about our apple adventure and they both "needed" their own bucket.


It didn't take them long to get straight to work picking the apples.


Westyn cracked me up because he mostly insisted on carrying his own bucket, even when it was getting heavy.


It didn't take long before we had nearly two full buckets of apples. The boys were pretty proud of their work collecting apples.


We hauled the buckets back to the store. While Justin went inside to pay, the boys took a little break after all that hard work.


When Justin came out, he said we had about 30 pounds of apples! Wow! What do you do with 30 pounds of apples? Well, first you go home a make a fresh apple pie!

 
So, I learned all about storing apples and I have about 4 apple pie fillings in the freezer ready to pop into a pie at a moments notice. We had a lot of fun apple picking and now that we know about this little orchard, we will definitely make this a family tradition!

Mid-MO Ren Fest

I purchased Groupon for the Mid-Missouri Renessance Festival. So, on September 14 we went to go check it out. The boys were particularly excited about getting to bring their swords that they got at Medieval Times.


They even got to fight a fire breathing dragon upon entering the castle gates.


We headed to Gentleman John's place first, where Garytt made his own jump rope.


Then we watched some battle sparring on stage. The actors asked the boys to come up and participate but they were a bit too scared. The enjoyed watching though.


We found an archery station and Garytt and Westyn were really excited to try it out!


We watched a little more sparring in the field.


Then we heard an announcement that kids could help dress a real knight. So, we headed over to see what that was about.


It was a bit of a slow process to get the knight dressed and lost of bigger kids were helping. So, the boys tried on some of the helmets they had out on display. The helmets were much heavier than expected but the boys thought it was so fun to put them on.


The boys eventually got a turn to help put on some of the armor.


The knight is finally in his complete armor.


I went to stand in line to get some lunch while the boys went to go check out some musicians.


I think the boys really enjoyed the Ren Fest. But soon it was time to head home for a nap.  I hope it works out that we can go again next year!
