The next morning, we headed out of town after an early lunch. We were scheduled to be in Hot Springs, AR by mid-afternoon to hang out with some of my extended family, the Drakes family.
A few miles down the road, my tire pressure light came on. We were just about to come into the Tyler area, so we quickly did a Google search and found a tire shop nearby. As it was almost lunch time, they were fairly busy but agreed to work us in. Thank goodness for electronic devices!
It took longer than we hoped but we are very thankful we weren't out in the middle of nowhere when this happened. Instead, we were able to get the tire repaired (they found a nail in it) and the shop did it for FREE! I highly recommend anyone in the Tyler area to use Billings! They were really friendly and have a policy of not charging for flat tires. Our little guardian angels were working overtime this week since we drove a total of nearly 3,000 miles by the time we returned to our home in MO!
We finally made it to Hot Springs, quite a bit late. But we were so happy to get to spend some time with the Drakes. Claire met us at the car and immediately asked Garytt if he wanted to go play in her park (the play set in their backyard). Obviously, he was totally all about that! I guess I was so tired and relieved to be in for the evening that I didn't even take many pictures while we were there. I did get one picture of Mary showing the boys how to play a video game.
Thanks so much to the Drakes family for putting us up for the night. The boys loved playing with you guys! And Justin is ready to come back and visit when we can do some lake fun!
We finished our trip the following day. We, of course, found a science center to stop at on the way home. We stopped in Springfield, MO at the Discovery Center. It worked out great because there was an area at the front with tables and chairs that I was able to sit down and do some work while Justin took the boys to go explore.
There were two things that Garytt was really excited to tell me about. One was a toilet that was also a drinking fountain...wow. And the other was a ball that made your hair stand out. (Sadly he didn't realize that his hair is too short for the ball to make a difference.)
Justin said this was a really fun science center, which judging from the pictures, I have to agree!
When we finally got home that evening, we allowed the boys to eat the plane from W.D.'s cake. Nothing like a sugar rush before bed!
Whew! What a trip! We are so thankful that we got to see as many people as we did during our stay in Texas but we are sad we missed seeing a lot of people, too! Maybe next time! I am really thankful that we have the ability to break up our travel with fun adventures for the boys. It makes the nearly 3,000 miles we traveled in one week bearable for them (and us!).
