Adventure Science Center-Nashville

The Monday after Thanksgiving, Justin left for a conference in Florida and the boys and I headed out for Nashville, TN to visit a great friend of mine that we haven't seen in quite a while.

I was really excited to get to spend some time with Stacey but a little nervous about the 7 hour drive with both boys by myself.  The boys did really well in the car and the trip went smoothly. 

The first afternoon we were there, Stacey suggested going to the Adventure Science Center.  I knew it would be a hit right when we walked in and saw a huge train display.  They had buttons that the kids could push to control which trains moved on some displays.  Others were contantly on.  Either way, Garytt was all about the trains! 

  Westyn watched the trains from the comfort of the stroller.

  We were eventually able to convince Garytt to go see another area of the museum...it was tough though because it is hard to top trains!

The next section was a bit of a hodge podge. There was a garden area, a tree house, a cave, a market, a kitchen, a rock wall, and probably more that I am forgetting. So, we spent a good amount of time here. Westyn loved the garden but we had to give him his pacifier so he would't put the plastic fruits and veggies (which I'm pretty sure never get washed) in his mouth. Garytt, of course, loved climbing the tree house. However, the scariest part was the cave because they had pretend bats with flashing lights and bat noises...he really didn't want to go back in there!

  Around the corner, Garytt found a truck to drive for a few minutes.

  Then we headed to outer space! This room looked pretty neat but there weren't a ton of activities, except there was a scale that showed your weight on different planets.

  From that room, we went to an area that was related and had a few more activities, including a bottle rocket launcher.

  Next, it was time to head up to the second level. Right when we got off the elevator, there was a small dinosaur exhibit...and I do mean small. It was pretty much just a few large dinos, a photo op cut out, and a board with trivia questions. There was a short tube that kids could crawl into and then be in the center of the dino display...yeah, Garytt crawled in there and wouldn't come out...that was fun!

  Finally, after some coaxing and then a little time-out with mom, we were ready for more adventures...the human body exhibit was next! There were some fun panels that if you walked behind them, it showed you are certain part of the body.

  Then Garytt was running through the brain!

  The ambulance in the center of the exhibit caught his attention and off he went to drive the ambulance!

  One of the more entertaining sections of the human body exhibit was the digestive system. They had a slide that was supposed to represent the intestines and there was a giant whoopee cushion at the end that made some fun noises. It took Garytt a minute to figure out where the noise was coming from, which was really pretty funny!

  Even Westyn got in on the whoopee cushion action!

  Westyn also enjoyed a labryinth table that said "poop happens." How very true!

  After the human body experience, we stopped by the TV station. Garytt enjoyed seeing himself on TV. There were several different background scenes to choose from. Garytt mostly like the building that implodes...such a boy!

  Finally, it was only a few minutes before the museum closed, so we had to start making our way to the exit...but we had time to stop by a large train that Garytt could play in. That boy does love trains!

  We had a great afternoon at the science center! And it was nice that it wasn't very busy, so we really didn't have to wait in line to see anything. The boys were worn out and Stacey and I were worn out!
