This first video is Garytt eating his cheerios at breakfast. He was being a little silly that morning.
In this next video, Garytt was busy eating his spaghetti one evening and then noticed the bread that was sitting next to him. Garytt definitely shares my love of breads and we usually can't get him to eat anything if there is bread on the table. So, we have started serving up the main meal and bringing the bread out later after he has eaten a little bit of his real dinner.
We have gone through a lot of phases with Garytt and his veggie eating. Sometimes he seems to eat them up with no problem and then he goes through phases where he doesn't want to eat any veggies. Unfortunately, the phases where he refuses to eat vegetables seem to get more and more frequent. So, I have been trying to hide more vegetables in the main meal, especially if it is a pasta dish. In this video, he figured out that there was corn in the pasta...but oddly, he decided to start picking the corn out to actually eat. Now, I realize that corn isn't the best vegetable to choose but it was a small victory.
So, I realize that Garytt is 21 months old and probably many kids feed themselves breakfast much earlier than this. However, Justin has always fed Garytt his oatmeal and then let him feed himself the cheerios. This has been mostly a request of mine because then he doesn't get messy first thing in the morning. We have, of course, encouraged self-feeding at lunch and dinner. I usually make something at lunch that won't be too messy. And if he gets too messy at dinner, he just goes straight to the bath.
Well, recently, Garytt has decided that he wants to feed himself the oatmeal as well. So, in this video Justin is coaching him on taking smaller bites. Garytt still rotates the spoon from the bowl to his mouth, so a huge bite has a potential to be very messy. He's been doing pretty well with feeding himself the oatmeal in the morning but I think Justin makes it pretty thick to help it stick to the spoon.
One day Garytt wasn't eating his fruit very well and Justin stole an apple off of Garytt's plate and Garytt told him "no" and got possesive of his plate. He finished all of his apples that day, so it worked! We have used this technique a few times since then. This video is an example of him telling Justin "no." (Garytt also loves to dip anything in ketchup...including his fruit...yuck!)
During that same meal, we tried to get Garytt to try a clementine. He was interested in having one when both Justin and I were eating them...but he just wasn't too sure about actually eating it.
Then our tried and true method of trying to "steal" his food backfired.
And yes, he even dipped the clementine in ketchup...
After dinner that evening, Garytt decided to climb onto a dining room chair all by himself. This was the first time I had ever seen him climb up there all by himself. Then he kind of got stuck and couldn't figure out how to get down by himself.
Also, that same evening, Garytt got his hands on the Flip Video and created his own Blair Witch Project type video.
I hope you enjoy the videos!
