Shoe Shopping in Kansas and a "Redneck Play Pen"

Garytt and I were able to take a trip to Kansas in early September. We spent most of the Labor Day weekend there and stayed through that Thursday. So, it was a nice trip and we were fortunate that Bec and Kyle were able to visit for a few days as well.

On Monday, Sept. 5, Grandma, Garytt, and I decided to go to Kansas City to shop for shoes for Garytt at the Legends Mall, where there is a Stride Rite. This was prompted by the fact that when Justin put on his shoes prior to the plane ride, he mentioned that the white baby shoes were a bit tight. I didn't know exactly how tight they must have been until we arrived at Stride Rite and asked to have his feet measured. He measured about a 5.5 extra wide. His baby shoes were a 4.5 regular! The shoes we actually bought are a 6.5 extra wide...so he probably feels awesome in them!

Now, I must say that I don't feel too bad because he has been wearing sandals and flip-flops most of the summer and hasn't actually put on his white baby shoes in quite a while...so, it was really only one day of squished feet in the airport...thank goodness!

Checking shoes size 6.5 vs size 7.0.

Stomping around in two different shoes...neither of which we ended up buying.

Check out my new dress shoes.

After Stride Rite, we decided to go check out Cavender's because we really wanted to find some cowboy boots for Garytt to wear to the wedding we were going to the next weekend in Texas. You just have to have cowboy boots in Texas!!

Cavender's does have a huge selection of children's boots...but in case you missed it, Garyt has extra wide feet...yeah, boots in wide are not easy to come by. We tried on a ton of boots and his poor little feet just didn't fit. Bummer!

One boot and one new tennis shoe.

Having trouble walking in the boots since they don't really fit.

We decided we would try the western store in Topeka the next day and hope they had something better.

We were done shoe shopping right around dinner time. So, what better place to have a little dinner than Chick-Fil-A?! (This is especially true since we don't have these anywhere near us in Wisconsin.)

Yummy!

Play time at Chick-Fil-A

Grandpa was outside when we got back to Topeka for the evening. So, of course, Garytt was excited to run around and show Grandpa his new shoes. Grandpa thought it would be fun to put him in the back of his pick-up truck...I think his quote was that it was like a "redneck play pen." I thought that was too funny...and Garytt was quite entertained by just walking around in the bed of the truck.
