We showed up and the boys got right to work. This program is really geared for kids around the ages of 5-7, so both boys needs a lot of assistance but they were excited about it. Garytt read the instructions carefully.
Justin helped Wesytn while I helped Garytt.
Both boys really enjoyed all the hammering.
Westyn looked a little confused when he had to wait for Justin.
Garytt and I bent the nail...oops! (Fortunately, they included a few extra nails in the package...so we had a replacement.)
Here are a few videos of the boys nailing their planes together. (Notice how in one video Westyn in so good at hammering, he doesn't even have to look at his project...a little dangerous for Dad's hands but he survived.)
After the plane was all nailed together, it was time to put the stickers on to make it look like El Chupacabra.
The boys were pretty proud of their planes.
Oddly, they gave the boys their work aprons and goggles on the way out of the session instead of at the beginning. So, we didn't get pictures with them in their cool new aprons but Westyn was happy to drag it through the store on the way out.
Each of the boys received a certificate of completion and a patch to put on their apron.
The boys played with their planes the whole way home.
The fun with the planes continued into the next morning since our entry hallway seemed like a perfect runway.
Here are some videos of their runway fun.
I was really impressed with the quality of this project. The boys had a great time, even though they are probably a little younger than their intended audience. I have to say that the boys have tried to see if the planes can actually fly and both planes have suffered some injuries since they are made of some pretty heavy wood...oops!
They had so much fun that I have already signed them up for the September building project!
