Burgers and Trains

We didn't have any big plans for Labor Day weekend. We woke up on Saturday morning and I had to work. I was done around lunch time and it didn't look like I would get any more work for the rest of the weekend. So, last minute, we decided to head to Topeka to visit my parents for the rest of the weekend.

My parents were actually at the Kansas State football game on Saturday evening, so we weren't in a big rush to get to town. We decided to stop in Kansas City to do a bit of shopping and grab some dinner.

We decided to eat at a local Kansas City favorite: Fritz's.

As you can see from the sign, this place is all about trains...and Garytt loves trains...awesome! The kids even get a conductor's hat to wear when they come in, which he also loved!

He looks deep in thought about the menu, but really it was just a matter a moments before all the trains in the place distracted him!

We actually didn't get any pictures of the trains, which we should have. They have train cars that run along tracks near the ceiling. They load them up with the food and the train cars drop the food onto trays that come down to your table. It's such a fun place for kids and it totally keeps them occupied the whole time! They also have a train that runs continuously on it's own track...probably to prevent a toddler meltdown about not seeing a train!

He was pretty excited when our food came out too! He definitely wanted to eat but, man, those trains are distracting!

Garytt spent the whole time waving at the trains saying "Bye, bye train!" And when it came back around, he'd do it again...it was so funny!

But, all good things have to come to an end... Justin and I have started planning exit strategies that help us prevent the complete meltdown about something ending...so, in this scenario, we knew there was another train out by the door. So, when we were all finished eating, we suggested to Garytt that we go see that train...he jumped right up and headed for the door!

He did have a very brief moment once we were outside and he realized all the trains were gone but then we reminded him we were going to Grandma and Grandpa's house and he was happy again!

I have to say that we enjoy the atmosphere at Fritz's! (Maybe the food could improve a little.)
