As we continued our trip from Oklahoma City to the Dallas area, the weather shifted from just rainy to potentially severe. We noticed that there was a huge difference in temperatures as we got close to the Texas border. Shortly after that, we started getting some phone calls from my mom saying that there were a lot of watches and warnings. As we neared Dallas, reports were coming in that there was a confirmed tornado just 8 miles south of Dallas moving north. My mom was calling and telling us to get off the road to take cover. Unfortunately, it was Dec 26 and most of the places we were passing by were closed. We decided our only option was to continue to head to our destination of Sachse, TX (not far from Garland, TX), a northern suburb of Dallas. My mom was telling us that the predicted path of the storm included Garland. We hurried as fast as we could and made it to our cousin's house safely. However, we were only about 20 or so minutes ahead of the storm. As it turned out the storm crossed some of the same roads we were on just a short time before and ended up hitting the town of Garland. It was an intense last hour of our trip and we were very thankful that we were all safe!
When the news came in that the city of Garland was affected and there were many people displaced from their homes, Cousin Warren had to head out to help the relief efforts since he works for the City of Garland. We missed him and prayed for all those affected by the storm. We also tried to enjoy our time visiting cousins on the Brown side.
