Aunt B

November was a very hard month as we lost a wonderful, loving aunt. Aunt Betty just loved doting on all her nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephew, and great-great nephews. We miss her dearly!

This is a copy of her obituary.

 Betty Cord
Leavenworth, KS

Elizabeth "Betty" Marie Cord, 86, of Leavenworth, died, Monday, November 21, 2016, at Country Care Nursing Home in Easton, KS. Betty was born November 20, 1930, in Leavenworth, the daughter of Henry and Victoria (Jamison) Wiehe. Betty is survived by numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and a great newphews along with 5 great-great nephews whom she loved dearly.

On May 23, 1964, Betty married Julius D Cord in Leavenworth, KS. They were the first couple to get married in the New Cathedral. He preceded her in death in 2013. She was also preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Mary Skahan.

Betty worked in the Missouri Valley Steel office in the 1950s. She moved to Michigan with Julius after their marriage in 1964 where he worked for Stran Steel Buildings and she worked at Knapp's Department Store until they closed. She worked as an accounts receivable clerk for the comptroller's office at Michigan State University. She retired from MSU in 1993.

She was a member of St. Martha Catholic Church in Okemos, MI and the Walnut Country Club.
Betty enjoyed knitting, going out to eat, playing cards, going to the casinos and going out for coffee. She loved getting together with her dear close friends Annabell Zemer and Flo Ebright who preceded her in death. She lived her life for her family and friends.

Memorials are suggested to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society or Toys for Tots.

The cousins were able to hang out after the rosary service.

We celebrated her funeral mass on November 28. All of her great great nephews were listed as her request to be pall bearers. Obviously, since they were all ages 6 and under, they wouldn't actually be able to carry the casket. So, they were honorary pall bearers.

After the mass, we had a reception in the church basement. The little guys had a great time together, and she would have just loved that!

Aunt B is dearly missed and will always be in our hearts!
