They don't actually want the parents to hang around for class. They specifically ask parents to "kiss and fly." While that probably helps many of the children focus on the class, it doesn't help fill in my blog story with fun pictures. But I did snap another one when I was dropping him off one day.
The director of the TRYPS program also sent several links to videos they posted on YouTube throughout the season to show their progress during practices.
Garytt looks like he enjoyed acting class and followed directions pretty well.
February 22 was the big show day. We were so excited because Mimi, Grandma, and Grandpa were all able to make it to his first performance! The stage was set!
The director spoke for just a few moments before the show started. She mentioned how on show day anything can go wrong, you just never know but the important thing is that we show our support.
Look at that cute Ralph in the back behind Cyborg.
Here is my video of the performance. Little did we know that the director's speech about things going awry would come true for Garytt. Poor little guy did the acting part perfectly. Then, when he goes to hug the person next to him, he thinks he is putting his hand in his pocket but gets it stuck in the gap by the button on the side of his overalls. So, after all his hard work practicing for the dancing portion, his hand is stuck and he can't focus. He still tries to do a few of the dance moves...such a trooper! My video is a bit shaky and I kind of catch the ceiling a bit at the end because I'm laughing so hard.
Here's the link posted by TRYPS. They have a little bit better angle than I did.
We took a few still photos during the performance too. Before the hand gets stuck:
After the hand gets stuck. (You can see the panic in the eyes in the first picture when he realizes his hand is stuck.)
I will say it was a memorable performance and he was such a trooper about it. (The sign of a great actor-the show must go on!) He even asked if he could take more acting classes. (Of course it helps that they are doing Lion King next time and who doesn't love the Lion King?
